Industrial Automation Retrofit & Upgrades
A sound machine with an ageing control system doesn't need to be replaced. Upgrading the controls — PLC, drives, HMI or panel — can restore reliability, add capability and remove obsolescence risk at a fraction of the cost of new equipment.

Overview
Sparsh Automation plans and executes retrofits and upgrades to modernise legacy systems with minimal downtime, focusing on a return on investment you can justify.

Typical deliverables
- Survey report and upgrade options
- Migration and cut-over plan aligned with shutdowns
- Engineering, hardware and software for the upgrade
- Commissioning and updated documentation
Final scope and deliverables are agreed in the quotation for each requirement.
Typical applications
- Legacy machines with obsolete controls
- Plants standardising on a single PLC platform
- Adding monitoring or connectivity to existing lines
- Energy-related upgrades using VFDs
Technical considerations
General engineering guidance to help you plan and specify.
- Phasing
- Large upgrades can often be phased to fit planned shutdowns rather than one long outage.
- Preparation off-site
- Building and testing panels and programs before the shutdown keeps cut-over time short.
- Fallback plan
- A clear rollback plan reduces risk if unexpected issues arise during cut-over.
- ROI is case-specific
- Benefits depend on the existing condition and goals. We help you build a realistic business case rather than promise generic savings.

FAQ
Retrofit & Upgrades: common questions
Can we upgrade the PLC without changing the field wiring?
Often a large part of the field wiring can be retained. The survey identifies what can stay and what must change.
How do you keep downtime short?
By preparing panels and programs off-site, testing them in advance and planning the cut-over in detail before the shutdown.
Should we retrofit or buy a new machine?
If the mechanical equipment is in good condition, a controls retrofit is often more economical. We help evaluate both options.
